Homeschool Series
1/2 Credit Hour – 16 Weeks
Our Music Appreciation is a course specifically designed for Homeschoolers. The course is a sixteen week drip style course, where lectures are released weekly both live and video.
There is an assignment or quiz produced weekly, and all grades are posted through your student portal.
What the student will learn…
The Music Appreciation Course is taught with an emphasis on history and listening. This is similar to a survey course, and the student will also acquire listening skills beneficial to the course and beyond. Students will begin with music of the Middle-Ages and end with an analysis of contemporary music.
In addition to a firm grasp of historical musical styles, the student will attain a basic understanding of note reading elements. This course is equivalent to 1/2 credit hour, typically used as an elective. Bundle with our Fundamentals of Music Course for the equivalent of 1 credit hour taught in succession.
At the culmination of the course, students will amaze themselves and others as they correctly identify the style, period, texture, tempo, orchestration and composer of a piece of music they have never heard prior. A skill we train starting with week one!
This is a great course to pursue before registering for our Comprehensive Music Theory course – a much more intensive and faster paced course.
Pre-requisites
Seventh Grade or similar level of academic achievement and age or above. (The course typically ranges from ages 13 to 18)
A fast internet connection and webcam capable of livestreaming. (We use a livestreaming service that doesn’t require the student to download an app. A link for the livestream portion of the classes will be emailed and posted prior to the course beginning.) A laptop or PC is preferred, but a smartphone or tablet will suffice.
Course tuition must be paid in full prior to the first lecture. Tuition can be paid by clicking the Enroll Now button below. Please provide your preferred Course Section when registering through the “Add Note” field or by email.

With course enrollment, the student will receive the Music Appreciation Course Workbook and Planner. This workbook will help the student keep track of weekly studies, assignments and listening exercises. We will ship a copy of the workbook, but you may also request a PDF version of the same.
